ÖAKF is a working committee of the relevant producers of PVC profiles
(systems) for windows in Austria. Its 12 members represent a market share of 92 % of all PVC windows sold in the country.
ÖAKF's primary goals are to ensure a fair market for PVC profiles and to promote recycling of post consumer windows.
One waste processing firm and 9 waste collecting companies have been formed into a nationwide collection network for post consumer PVC windows in the late 90's.
Given the fact that recycling clearly is more expensive than thermal utilisation, recycling figures are still high in Austria. An independent study, published in Jan. 2005, showed that one out of 6 post consumer windows is already being materially recycled.
In the future, ÖAKF will put an even stronger focus on public information and political lobbying in order to further raise the recycling figures and to fend off restrictions against PVC windows.
